First things first
We’re in the same boat, you and I. As we age we naturally start to ask questions about what constitutes successful aging, and although there is a tremendous amount of information now available, it’s scattered all over the place. My own research and quest for knowledge has been disjointed and frustrating. The idea behind this blog is to create a central repository for good ideas, and hopefully to grow a community who can give valuable insight about best practices as we enter the third phase of our lives.
Of course it’s natural to ask “why should I read or listen to this guy?”, so I’ll offer up my bona fides. I’m a medical doctor with over 30 years of experience as a vitreoretinal surgeon. My patients are usually over 60, so I’ve had 10s of thousands encounters with people that are grappling with these questions, problems, fears, and emotions. These discussions have given me a fairly deep understanding of where the need lies, and more importantly, my patients have taught me many solutions. As I write this I’m 61 years old myself, I’ve gotten deeply into the weeds with my own research into what successful aging might look like.
In the weeks and months ahead I plan to publish weekly content on a host of topics of high value:
Navigating health care
Relationships
Longevity
Food, diet, and supplements
Exercise, and fitness
Retirement
Living situations
The hope is to provide good, solid, actionable ideas, and build a vibrant community to openly discuss our best ideas. I’m glad that you’ve found this site and hope that you’ll stay, participate, and help grow this into a resource for all of us.
